Biographical Sketch

Mr. Terrance Robinson received a M.F.A. from the University of Nebraska in 2000 and a B.A. from Mississippi Valley State University in 1997. Additionally, he was awarded the following: Larson Fellowship, Regents Tuition Fellowship, Graduate Teaching Assistantship, and a full-scholarship during his academic career.

Mr. Robinson’s artwork consists of working with different media such as ceramics, drawing materials, graphics, paints, printmaking materials, and mix media (sculptures). He tries to express a concern for development and sincerity throughout his creative voice. He prides himself in creating rich colors, textures, and shapes that captivate the audience and bring them in for visual interpretation. Thus, his goal is to push media to their extreme limits while commanding them to perform their designated task (works in a series). Mr. Robinson’s passion for expressing himself in the arts have directed him to study great artists’ styles-John Biggers, Thomas Eloby, Jackson Pollock, Henry Moore, Robert Motherwell, Henry O’ Tanner, and Charles White, which has enhanced his understanding and appreciation of the arts in an immense way. Additionally, many of his ceramics and sculptural pieces are influenced by African ancestral masks and cubism. His three dimensional pieces emphasize shape and texture combined with unique contents that are near and dear to the artist’s heart. These studies often transform Mr. Robinson’s creative forces into innovative possibilities that supersede the norm. Preliminary sketches are created to convey the artist’s visual voice; this process is done before he executes any three dimensional forms.

In conjunction with studying and practicing art, Mr. Robinson has been privileged to exhibit at several galleries, institutions, and museums.
